WebImage: Transparency
<--Back to WebImage Tech Support
Q: Why did WebImage crash when I added text to an image
with transparency?
A: There is a bug in WebImage v2.0 that causes the program to crash when text
falls outside the bounds of an image with transparency. Even though the text might
not actually go over the edge of the image, the invisible text field that the
program uses might. This bug is fixed in release 2.1
Q: Why can't I save a monochrome GIF with transparency?
A: There was a bug in WebImage 2.0 that didn't allow monochromes with transparency,
but this has been fixed in WebImage 2.1.
Q: Why can't I add text with transparency on?
A: There were a couple of problems with this in WebImage 2.0. One problem simply
did not update the transparency mask after adding the text. The second actually
crashed the program. Both problems have been fixed in WebImage 2.1.
Q: Why is it that when I try to make the background transparent,
it only removes
a few pixels?
A: The program is removing exactly the color you selected. Often images will
seem to have a solid shade of color, for example a background, but in reality
the background will consist of many slightly different shades of a color. This
means it's impossible to remove the whole background by selecting just one of
those shades. One way around this problem is to select and copy a portion of
the transparency and paste it where you need it. A second, easier way might be
to save the image as a BMP file, load it into a paint program, then select one
of the background pixels and color in the background using the program's drawing
tools so that it is truly all one color. Then you can reload the image into WebImage
and select that single color for the transparency.
Q: Why does the transparency I added to my image disappear
after I save it?
A: Since GIF is the only image format that supports transparency, it is important
to make sure that you are saving the file as a GIF. If you just select Save,
the file will save in its native format and the transparency information will
be lost. To prevent this, select Save As and be sure the Save As Type is set
to GIF.
