WebImage: Working with Comments
<--Back to WebImage Tech Support
Q: Why do the comments keep disappearing after I've saved
my image?
A: Although comments are available for other image types, WebImage v2.1 only supports
comments in GIF and PNG images.
Q: How can I add another comment to my first comment?
A: GIFs support multiple comment pages. To add another comment page, simply press
the right arrow under the comment box until the caption says "new comment".
Then, when you enter text, the caption will update to display the current page
and the total number of pages.
Q: How can I insert a new comment in between two old comments?
A: There is no way to insert a comment between two others. You can however add
your comment to the end, then select and cut the text from a comment which will
delete it then paste it at the end of that one.
Q: How can I delete some of these comments out of my GIF
file?
A: To delete a comment, simply delete all the text in the comment. The comment
page numbers will adjust themselves.
Q: Why can I not save comments in JPG and TIFF files?
A: WebImage does not currently support comments in any file type except GIF and
PNG. In the future, we plan to support comments in every file type we support
which allows them.
Q: Why does WebImage keep adding the word Comment: to
my comments?
Q: How exactly does WebImage handle PNG comments?
A: PNG comments are different from GIF comments in that PNG comments have two
fields, a keyword field and a comment field. The problem is that both fields
are mandatory for a PNG comment and so, if no keyword is present, WebImage adds
the word Comment into the keyword field. WebImage uses a colon to separate the
keyword from the actual comment. For comments with keywords, everything before
the colon is considered a keyword and everything after is considered the comment
proper. For file types like GIF, which do not require keywords, everything before
and after the colon is saved as a comment. Although it seems clunky at first,
this manipulation was necessary to allow smooth conversion between images of different
types.
