Common Questions
Q: Where is uudecoding in this new version?
A: Neither WebImage v2 nor I Spy v2 currently have that functionality. Most browsers
and mail programs now automatically uudecode, unmime or unbinhex things automatically.
If yours does not, you can use a web search engine and download a multitude of
utilities that will do it for you.
Q: What happened to the thumbnailer in WebImage?
A: We broke it out into a separate program called I Spy that is bundled along
with WebImage v2. I Spy does everything that WebImage 1.72 did for thumbnailing
and more.
Q: How do I turn off Duplicate mode in WebImage v2?
A: In WebImage v2, when you pick up a selection, it does not affect the original
image. In a sense, duplicate mode is always on and there is no way to turn it
off.
Q: How can I remove WebImage as the registered viewer
for my image types under
Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0?
A: The simplest way is to open the Register Image Types dialog under the menu
Options. Once there, simply remove the types you wish to be unregistered. When
you close the dialog, these image types will be unregistered. If you've removed
WebImage from your system, the only way to unregister is to open Explorer and
open the Options dialog under the View menu. Select the File Types tab. Find
and select the WebImage Image Editor Image type (near the bottom) and press the
Remove button. This should unregister all the types.
Q: How can I remove WebImage as the default viewer in
Netscape?
A: First, open Netscape. Open the General Options dialog under the Options menu.
Select the Helpers tab. Next, find each image type you wish to unregister and
select it. When you do, you will notice at the bottom of the dialog several options
you can set for the image type. At this point you can tell Netscape to save it
directly to disk, to prompt the user, to open it in the browser, if possible,
or to use a different program to load the image. Repeat this for each image type.
Q: How can I install WebImage as the default viewer in
Netscape?
A: First, open Netscape. Open the General Options dialog under the Options menu.
Select the Helpers tab. Next, scroll down and find the image types. Select an
image type and select the option at the bottom of the dialog to Launch the Application.
Use the browse button to point Netscape to WebImage's location. Repeat this action
for each image type. However, once you have found WebImage, you can copy the
path and paste it into each additional image type. You may also want to add a
new image type, as there are many types that Netscape does not support, but that
WebImage does. To do this, press the Create New Type button and enter the MIME
code for the image type. Then add WebImage as the viewer for the type, as detailed
above.
Q: Why don't the catalogs I've created with WebImage 1.72's
thumbnailer get
picked up by I Spy?
A: I Spy implements a newer, quicker catalog system. But to do this, we had to
change the way the catalogs were stored. Thus, I Spy is not able to utilize WebImage
1.72 catalogs. However, it will quickly cache the images in your directories
and you can easily build new catalogs at that point.
Q: How can I get rid of that little spider icon on all
my image files?
A: The reason they all have the spider icon is because they are all set to open
WebImage on double clicking. But if that's not what you want, there are two things
you can do. The first is to go into the product and open the Register Image Types
dialog under the Options menu. Here, you can register or unregister each individual
type. If you unregister the type, it will remove the spider icon. If you have
removed the program, but the icons are still there (although, properly uninstalling
will remove them), you can still get rid of them by opening Explorer and opening
the Options dialog under the View menu. Click on the File Types tab and scroll
down until you see WebImage Image Editor Image. Select that and press the Remove
button. This will unregister all the image types and you should have your plain
old icons back again. You may have to reboot to see the changes.
Q: How can I set up my browser to use WebImage to view
these files?
A: For Netscape and Mosaic, you need to go under options and set WebImage to be
a helper Application. It will allow you to enter a file extension and link that
to WebImage. The specifics are dependent on the particular program in question.
For Internet Explorer, once WebImage is registered as the Windows viewer for those
file types, it is registered as such for Internet Explorer also.
Q: Why can't I save any of my changes in WebImage?
A: If you are still using the Demo version, it times out after ten days. After
that point, you can no longer save images, until you register your copy.
